Lesbian Day of Visibility: In Conversation With…

In partnership with Moody’s, Nomura’s LGBTA network hosted “A Conversation with Lisa Wright” on 1 May, in recognition of Lesbian Visibility Day on 26 April.

Lisa Wright, a Senior Director of the Bureau van Dijk- a Moody’s Analytics Company- and recipient of Global Excellence Award for “Most Influential Woman in UK M&A Research”, spoke to a great turnout of attendees from across Interbank’s member firms including EY and Bloomberg as well as others from outside the organisation such as PinkNews and Freshfields.

Lisa spoke about her career trajectory and her experiences of being both a female leader, and an out lesbian in the workplace.  During a very honest conversation led by Nomura’s Rebecca Matts, Head of Corporate Communications, EMEA, a senior LGBT+ Ally at Nomura, Lisa explored the approach she took to coming out at work, especially to new employers, and how she now uses those experiences to aid her in managing a diverse team with diverse cultural and personal viewpoints. Alex Hawley from PwC’s GLEE network commented “it was great to hear someone as senior and accomplished as Lisa Wright speaking so openly about her own experiences of managers, of mentors, and of the approach she has taken to being an out lesbian in the workplace.”

The issues raised in the conversation led to a lively discussion on the floor, centred around strategies to get more women involved, not only in leadership and in lesbian visibility, but also in the diversity conversation and events run by diversity groups in the finance sector.  The exchange of ideas continued over drinks on the 11th floor of Nomura’s office overlooking the Thames.

The conversation was informative and enlightening and we’re grateful to Nomura and Moody’s for partnering for this event and giving us the chance to hear from Lisa in recognition of Lesbian Visibility Day.

Celebrate Lesbian Visibility Day on 1st May

To celebrate Lesbian Visibility Day*, Nomura’s LGBTA Network, in partnership with Moody’s will be hosting a conversation with Lisa Wright, a Senior Director of the Bureau van Dijk- a Moody’s Analytics Company.

Lisa has almost three-decades of experience in the financial information industry and is a knowledge expert in Global M&A, acting in an advisory role to the group’s sales teams worldwide. In 2018, Lisa was awarded the Global Excellence Award for “Most Influential Woman in UK M&A Research” after regular written contributions to newspapers such as The Times and The Sunday Times, alongside a regular M&A blog on current deals and emerging trends.

The focus of this discussion will not only be on Lisa’s experience as a visible lesbian role model in her industry, but will also draw on parallels and differences to that of our host, Rebecca Matts, Head of Corporate Communications, EMEA, a senior LGBT+ Ally at Nomura. The conversation will also centre around what it means to be a leading female in the Financial Services industry today, regardless of sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

All are welcome to join the conversation, and if you have any questions ahead of the event, please email

the LGBT & Allies network.

Interbank sponsors the BFI Flare Film Festival 2019

Last week The London Interbank LGBT Forum proudly sponsored a film at the BFI Flare LGBTQ+ Film Festival alongside Accenture, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, CME Group, Deloitte, IG, Macquarie, Refinitiv, Societe Generale and State Street. This is a partnership we’ve had for over a decade and we’re excited to be able to support this fantastic event.

The film this year was Papi Chulo (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8228538); written and directed by John Butler (he of Handsome Devil fame). It starred Matt Bomer and Alejandro Patino as the leading characters. Matt, who played Sean, is a gay man who is going through a very emotional time after losing his partner. Alejandro, who played Ernesto, is a straight migrant worker who is hired to paint the decking in Sean’s house. A fantastic movie about Sean’s need for someone to care about him, and the tolerance and kindness Ernesto shows him back. Very funny and touching, but also deep and emotional at times that really follows the relationship between the two men.

Following the film the BFI put on a great reception, attended by Interbank firms and the director, John Butler. John was on hand to answer deep and meaningful, and perhaps some slightly less deep and meaningful questions from all of us and did so with great enthusiasm and openness.

Interbank’s Strategy day – January 2019

On Saturday our Committee meet at our Member offices Accenture in the City of London for our 2019 Away Day strategy meeting. We’ve discussed some great ideas and strategies we will follow throughout this year and we are very excited!

A calendar of events and all what we do as Interbank and our Member firms individually, will be a key part of our strategy for 2019.

We very much look forward to working with our LGBT partners, straight allies, charities and many other individuals and organisations. We also hope to expand our networking evenings making them more inclusive and two of them will be charitable events and have guest speakers!

We will be publishing further information on all what we do, and when in due course, but if you want to know more information or would like to know how Interbank works, or are thinking of joining us, get in touch today!

We’ve included a few photos of our Away Day and some photos of Accenture’s rather cool offices! The team were particularly impressed with the red telephone meeting pods and the indoor themed garden! Thank you Accenture for your wonderful hospitality!

Interbank at London Pride 2018

The 7th July London hosted the fabulous annual Pride March. A day to celebrate the diversiveness of London and the LGBT+ community. Interbank Members and colleagues took part in the parade, as did many of our banks and financial service members under their own brand names. It was a wonderful day. Here’s just a few of the photos to remember the day 🏳️‍🌈❤🏳️‍🌈❤🏳️‍🌈❤🏳️‍🌈 #pridelondon2018 #interbankpride2018 #pridematters
